Therapy
Therapy sessions are available at my clinic in Leeds and online via Zoom
Therapy sessions can help with a variety of issues
How it Works
Whether you visit the clinic in Leeds or participate in your therapy sessions online, together we’ll look at a number of areas including:
- Events
We are born with only a handful of instinctive survival behaviours and responses. Everything else that we know and have ever known, is learned behaviour, either through deliberate learning or as a result of our experiences. The various events that we encounter in life and the memories that we create, can sometimes lead us to form behaviours and responses which are not always helpful or useful.
- Emotions
Memories of past events, especially if they are traumatic, can often feel intense and can cause us to experience unwanted emotions. On a subconscious level, these emotions direct our response to future similar situations. Using a combination of hypnotherapy and other talking therapies, it’s possible to neutralise that emotional intensity. You’ll still have the memory, but without the emotional reaction.
- Responses
We cannot change the past, but we can change how we feel about the future. Many of the negative responses that we want to change, stem from our feelings about a past event or situation. Through therapy, you can learn to manage your emotions and responses, enabling you to feel better. With the help of tried and tested psychological tools to help you control unwanted responses, you can begin to experience more positive feelings.
- Results
Throughout the therapy process, we focus on the outcome that you want to achieve and we use your goal as a guide to help us navigate from where you are now to where you want to be. Hypnotherapy and other talking therapies have a good track record in helping people to make lasting changes, however your motivation and participation are the real keys to your success, so you need to play your part too.
What to Expect
Free initial consultation
If you have any questions or are unsure whether therapy is right for you, I offer a 20 minute online free initial consultation via Zoom. This is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss what you’d like to change and how we can work together. I’ll also explain the face to face or online therapy options and we’ll talk about the number of sessions that you might need.
Your first session
When you meet me for your first session (at the clinic or online), we will discuss your situation in more detail, including your past experiences and goals, along with your role in the therapy process. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and when you’re ready, we will then move on to the therapy part of your session. This may involve a bespoke and blended use of therapies such as Hypnotherapy, Counselling and NLP, combined with other talking therapies as appropriate.
At the end of your appointment, we’ll talk about what you can do at home before your next appointment. This may include listening to an MP3 download, keeping a diary, practising self help techniques or another therapy related task. These activities are designed to enhance the work done during your sessions and enable you to develop new skills and responses to help you achieve your goal(s).
Further Sessions
In future sessions, we’ll talk about your progress since your last session and then continue with your therapy. Your therapy sessions are about working together to help you make the changes that you need to get to where you want to be. It’s a collaborative process which is done with you, not to you.
Many people begin to experience positive changes within a few weeks and sometimes just 2 or 3 sessions are all that is required. Throughout your sessions, we focus on the outcome that you want to achieve and we use your goal as a guide to help us move from where you are now, to where you want to be.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the issue and your level of motivation and participation in the process. Many people see me for 4 to 6 sessions and begin to notice positive changes after the first or second session. Other people may take a little longer. Clients are often surprised at how quickly they notice an improvement. Just because you’ve experienced a problem for a long time, it doesn’t always mean that it will take a long time to let go of it.
